Linotype Alloy Pieces – 11 lb
Approximately 84% Lead / 12% Antimony / 4% Tin | ~21–22 BHN | Made in USA
Rock Shot Products Linotype Alloy Pieces provide a hard, proven lead-based casting alloy for bullet casting, alloy blending, and precision metal casting applications.
Traditional Linotype alloy contains approximately 84% lead, 12% antimony, and 4% tin and typically measures around 21–22 Brinell Hardness (BHN). Its relatively high antimony content provides substantial hardness, while the tin content helps improve casting characteristics and mold fill-out.
Each order contains 11 pounds of Linotype alloy pieces, sized for convenient handling, weighing, and melting. The smaller pieces make it easy to add measured amounts of Linotype to a casting pot or blend it with softer lead alloys when creating a desired casting alloy.
Linotype is especially useful for casters who want a hard alloy as-is or a concentrated source of antimony and tin for alloy blending.

Why Linotype Alloy?
Linotype has been valued by bullet casters and metalworkers for decades because of its combination of hardness and good casting characteristics.
With approximately 12% antimony, Linotype is considerably harder than pure lead and many common bullet-casting alloys. Its approximately 4% tin content also contributes to good molten-metal flow and mold fill-out.
Casters can use Linotype directly when a hard casting alloy is appropriate or blend it with softer lead alloys to adjust the composition and hardness of a custom mixture.
Excellent for Alloy Blending
One of the biggest advantages of Linotype is its usefulness as a blending alloy.
Because it contains substantially more antimony and tin than many common lead alloys, measured amounts can be mixed with softer lead to increase hardness while also introducing tin into the final alloy.
The convenient piece form makes it easier to weigh, portion, melt, and blend the amount needed for a particular casting project.
Convenient 11 lb Package
Each order contains 11 pounds of Linotype alloy pieces.
The smaller pieces are easier to handle than large ingots and can be added gradually to casting pots and furnaces, making them particularly convenient when experimenting with or adjusting custom alloy blends.
