Have an unfamiliar metal, an alloy you want to check, or a precious-metal item you would like screened? Rock Shot Products offers XRF elemental analysis to help you understand the composition of suitable solid-metal samples.
We use a Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t 980S analyzer equipped with the Precious Metals package. Our service combines instrumental analysis with practical metal-production and alloying experience, with results presented in an emailed PDF report.
This listing is for a testing service—not an XRF analyzer or a physical product.
Analysis of one accepted solid-metal sample.
Readings at up to three suitable locations on that same sample, depending on its size, shape, and accessible surfaces.
An emailed PDF report identifying your sample and showing detected elements and their instrument-reported concentrations.
A photo of your sample with the tested locations identified.
Separate results for each tested location, allowing you to see any measured differences.
Relevant observations and testing limitations.
One brief follow-up discussion by phone or email to help you understand your report.
Multiple readings can help reveal differences between the tested locations. They do not establish the composition of every part of an item or an entire batch.
Each separate item or sample requires its own testing purchase. Quantity 1 covers one sample; quantity 2 covers two samples, and so on. The included readings are locations on the same sample—not separate items.
Quantity discounts are automatically applied when you purchase multiple tests in one order:
| Number of Samples | Discount | Price Per Sample |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Standard price | $49.99 |
| 2–4 | 5% off | $47.49 |
| 5–8 | 10% off | $44.99 |
| 9 or more | 15% off | $42.49 |
To qualify, samples must be purchased in the same order and shipped together. Each sample receives its own identification and results within the reporting package. Customers are responsible for shipping samples to Rock Shot Products. Optional return shipping is additional.
For recurring testing or larger projects, contact us before ordering to discuss your requirements.
XRF analysis can help customers:
Screen an unfamiliar metal or alloy.
Compare measured composition with an expected alloy formulation.
Investigate differences between metal samples.
Make more informed sorting, blending, casting, or material-selection decisions.
Testing suitability depends on the material, the elements of interest, and the sample’s condition. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether this service is appropriate for your needs.
Our analyzer includes the Precious Metals package, allowing us to offer composition screening of suitable precious-metal samples.
Contact us before submitting jewelry, bullion, coins, or other valuable items. Describe the item, any suspected plating or coating, and what you want to learn. We will confirm suitability and discuss sample handling and return arrangements before you ship.
XRF results describe the tested surface region. They are not a guarantee of an item’s internal composition, authenticity, monetary value, or overall purity. Plating, filled or hollow construction, and mixed materials can require additional testing methods.
Results are normally emailed within 3–5 business days after receipt of your accepted sample.
Shipping time to Rock Shot Products is additional. For larger sample quantities, we will confirm the expected turnaround before you order. If a sample requires further discussion or cannot be tested as submitted, we will contact you before proceeding.
Preferred Sample Size: Please provide a solid-metal sample approximately the size of a U.S. quarter or larger, with a flat, accessible testing surface where possible. Smaller or irregularly shaped samples may be accepted by prior arrangement. Size alone does not determine suitability; thickness, surface condition, and material also affect testing. Contact us before ordering to confirm that your sample can be tested.
Contact us first. Provide a description or photo of the sample, its approximate dimensions, and your testing goals.
Confirm suitability and place your order. Purchase one testing service for each accepted sample.
Label and package your samples. Include your order number, contact information, and a unique identifier for each sample. Package multiple samples separately so they remain identifiable.
Ship using the submission instructions we provide.
Receive your report by email after testing is complete.
Do not send powders, liquids, hazardous materials, or samples with unidentified residues without prior approval. If testing would require cleaning, filing, or other surface preparation that could alter your item, we will discuss it with you before proceeding.
Customers are responsible for shipping samples to Rock Shot Products. Contact us before shipping to confirm sample suitability and receive submission instructions.
Return shipping is optional and is not included in the testing fee. If you want your sample returned, provide a prepaid return shipping label or contact us to arrange a separate return-shipping quote. Return arrangements must be confirmed before submitting your sample.
Contact us before sending jewelry, bullion, or other valuable items so we can agree on packaging, insurance, and return arrangements.
If we cannot perform testing on your sample, we will refund the testing fee and contact you by phone or email to arrange its return or disposal. Shipping costs remain the customer’s responsibility.
Samples not scheduled for return will be held for 30 calendar days after we email your report or notify you that testing cannot be performed. After the 30-day retention period, samples not scheduled for return will be properly disposed of without further notice. Contact us within those 30 days if you decide you would like your sample returned; return shipping is additional.
XRF measures elemental composition in the region reached by the instrument’s X-rays. Results can be affected by surface coatings, plating, oxidation, contamination, sample thickness, shape, and variations within the material.
Not every element can be measured by this method. Detection limits and measurement uncertainty vary with the element, sample, and testing conditions. An element that is not detected should not automatically be considered absent.
Your report relates only to the sample and locations tested. Any comparison with an expected alloy composition applies only to the elements measured and does not establish every property or specification of that alloy.
This service provides XRF composition screening and alloy-identification information. It does not include fire assay, appraisal, authenticity certification, or accredited laboratory certification. Additional testing may be needed for purchasing specifications, regulatory compliance, or other applications requiring certified results.
