50/50 Tin-Lead Solid Solder Bars

50% Tin | 50% Lead | Extended Working Range

Sold by the pound. Quantity 1 = approximately 1 lb of 50/50 solder (typically 3–4 bars).

Rock Shot Products 50/50 Tin-Lead Solid Solder Bars are manufactured from a nominal alloy containing 50% tin and 50% lead. This traditional tin-lead solder provides good wetting and flow characteristics for a wide range of sheet metal, tinning, fabrication, repair, maintenance, and general-purpose soldering applications.

With a melting range of approximately 361°F–421°F (183°C–216°C), 50/50 solder passes through a plastic or “pasty” range as it heats and cools. This working range can be useful for applications where the solder needs to be worked, shaped, or positioned before completely solidifying.

Each bar is hand-poured into a compact form that is convenient to handle, store, and add to a solder pot or melting vessel.

Product Specifications

Alloy Composition: 50% Tin / 50% Lead
Alloy Type: Tin-Lead Solder
Form: Solid Solder Bar
Sold By: Approximately 1 lb increments
Bars Per Pound: Typically 3–4 bars
Approximate Bar Dimensions: 12" × 3/8" diameter
Approximate Bar Weight: 0.25–0.35 lb
Solidus Temperature: Approximately 361°F (183°C)
Liquidus Temperature: Approximately 421°F (216°C)
Melting Range: Approximately 361°F–421°F (183°C–216°C)

Individual bar dimensions and weights may vary slightly due to the hand-poured casting process. Each quantity purchased represents approximately one pound of solder.

Why Choose 50/50 Solder?

The 50% tin / 50% lead composition provides a useful balance of solder flow, wetting characteristics, working range, and material cost.

Unlike eutectic 63/37 solder, which transitions directly between liquid and solid at approximately 361°F (183°C), 50/50 solder has a broader plastic or pasty range between approximately 361°F and 421°F.

This makes 50/50 a versatile traditional solder alloy for sheet metal fabrication, tinning, repair work, radiator work, and other applications where an extended working range can be beneficial.

Sold by the Pound

This product is sold in approximately 1 lb increments.

Because individual bars typically weigh approximately 0.25–0.35 lb each, a one-pound order will normally contain 3–4 bars.

Quantity 1 = approximately 1 lb
Quantity 2 = approximately 2 lbs
Quantity 5 = approximately 5 lbs

The exact number of bars may vary depending on individual cast weight.
