60/40 Tin-Lead Solid Solder Bars

60% Tin | 40% Lead | Narrow Working Range

Sold by the pound. Quantity 1 = approximately 1 lb of 60/40 solder (typically 3–4 bars).

Rock Shot Products 60/40 Tin-Lead Solid Solder Bars are manufactured from a nominal alloy containing 60% tin and 40% lead. This classic tin-lead solder alloy provides excellent wetting and flow characteristics for a wide variety of electrical, electronics, tinning, fabrication, repair, and general soldering applications.

With a relatively narrow melting range of approximately 361°F–374°F (183°C–190°C), 60/40 solder transitions through a short plastic or “pasty” range as it cools. This gives the alloy excellent general-purpose soldering characteristics while still allowing a brief working period before complete solidification.

Each bar is hand-poured into a compact form that is convenient to handle, store, and add to a solder pot or melting vessel.

Product Specifications

Individual bar dimensions and weights may vary slightly due to the hand-poured casting process. Each quantity purchased represents approximately one pound of solder.

Why Choose 60/40 Solder?

The 60% tin / 40% lead composition is one of the traditional general-purpose tin-lead solder alloys, offering excellent wetting, good flow characteristics, and a relatively low melting range.

Unlike 63/37 eutectic solder, which transitions directly between liquid and solid at approximately 361°F (183°C), 60/40 solder has a short plastic or pasty range between approximately 361°F and 374°F.

This relatively narrow working range makes 60/40 a versatile choice for many general-purpose soldering applications.

Sold by the Pound

This product is sold in approximately 1 lb increments.

Because individual bars typically weigh approximately 0.25–0.30 lb each, a one-pound order will normally contain 3–4 bars.

Quantity 1 = approximately 1 lb
Quantity 2 = approximately 2 lbs
Quantity 5 = approximately 5 lbs

The exact number of bars may vary depending on individual cast weight.
